Coleman, Idaho Weed Prevention & Control

When we service your shrub beds, our goal is to control weeds and give landscape beds their best appearance. With this recurring service, we remove and prevent weeds in beds and pavement seams, clean up and remove miscellaneous debris such as fallen leaves or spent blooms, and focus on systematic, frequent service to ensure the bed's appearance is held to our highest standard.

Renew's approach to weed control is multi-faceted to prevent and control the growth of weeds:

  1. Apply a weed prevention product stops weeds from germinating. This is the best way for our process to produce maximum results.
  2. Spot spray the few small weeds that manage to come up. We use one of two weed control products. One is a special organic fatty acid soap that burns the leaves of the weed. The other biodegrades in the soil, leaving no residual trace. We can use either or neither on your property. It’s your choice.
  3. Hand-pull anything that gets too big. Until our prevention process is well-established, some weeds sneak through the cracks. But don't worry - our crews get on their hands and knees so you don't have to!
  4. Depending on the service option you choose, our landscape experts will add and maintain a layer of mulch on the soil for best weed control. Because it covers the soil, the mulch layer reduces weed seeds from germinating. It also builds humus in the soil to help grow healthy plants. Maintaining one to two inches of mulch helps to keep weeds from germinating.

Does Renew's weed control service include the use of pesticides?

Only if we have to – and after you've given us the green light. Let us explain:

Pesticides can be dangerous but only when used incorrectly. Additionally, the more toxic pesticides have already been taken off the market. Keep in mind that landscapers – who apply the pesticide and thus are more regularly exposed - rarely experience pesticide-related health issues.

When the situation allows for it, we prefer to use organic solutions. These products act like soap: They coat the surface of the leaves and prevent them from transpiring. Because the leaves can't breathe, they die. This won’t kill the weed, just the affected leaves. A healthy weed will try to grow more leaves which will then require additional treatment. Eventually, the plant gives up and dies. Although this process does not deliver the same results as more traditional weed-killing methods, it does have the organic benefits.

Note: For pesticide-free properties we must explain a critical caveat. Weed control might be poor if most of the following conditions are true:

  • Only pesticide-free practices may be employed on the property
  • The site has a previous weed problem so the seed bank contains many weed seeds
  • An inadequate layer of mulch is maintained
  • Time needed for weed control exceeds the time allotted.
